Albert George ‘Al’ Nickel, 78, enjoyed retirement in North Carolina

LELAND — Albert George “Al” Nickel, 78, formerly of New Windsor, New York, passed away Thursday, May 6, 2021, surrounded by his family.

Albert was born in Manhattan, New York. He was the son of the late William and Emma (Snediker) Nickel. He grew up in the Rockland County area of New York. He graduated from Suffern High School. He worked at the Ford plant in Mahwah, New Jersey. He retired from All Seasons Services in Middlehope, New York, which he was part owner of. While retired, he also worked for the Newburgh Auto Auction.

On Oct. 7, 1967, Al married Dorothea Vengelis of Prospect Park, New Jersey. Married for 53 years, they raised a son, Brian, in New Windsor, New York, where they lived for almost 40 years before retiring down to North Carolina in 2011.

Al was preceded in death by his parents, William and Emma Nickel; older brothers, Edward Snediker and William Nickel; and older sister, Lorraine Miele.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothea Nickel of Leland; son, Brian, and his wife, Kimberly, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and his two grandchildren, Zachary and Natalie of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

There will be a memorial service at 4 p.m., Friday, May 14, at Wilmington Funeral & Cremation, 1535 S. 41st St., Wilmington. 910-791-9099.
