David John ‘Dave’ Riggs, 79, crafty carpenter who collected almost every woodworking tool imaginable

David John ‘Dave’ Riggs

WILMINGTON — David John “Dave” Riggs, 79, died Sunday, Dec. 6, 2020.

Dave is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 57 years, Penny Riggs; daughter, Susan Williams of Wilmington; sons, David Riggs, and his wife, Ginger, of Raleigh and Douglas Riggs, and his wife, Elinor, of Lambertville, New Jersey; grandchildren, Luke, Zane, Noah, Makensie, Madelyn, Piper, Benjamin and Drew.

Dave was born in upstate New York, but made Wilmington his home in the early 2000s. Dave’s career path landed him in Clifton Springs, New York, as V.P. of sales at G.W. Lisk, a global leader in industrial solenoids. He was proud president and member of the Clifton Springs Rotary, where he served and helped others serve the local community for many years. The quaint little town of Clifton Springs, New York, is where Dave raised his family and honed his woodworking skills and passion for golf.

This talent for woodworking lead him to collect almost every woodworking tool imaginable. Through the years he made boxes, furniture and collectables, all things wood, that will be enjoyed by family members for years to come.

Dave had a deep love for family and will be missed at the card table playing games and laughing with his kids and grandkids. He will be missed greatly and will always be remembered in our hearts.

Dave was a lifelong believer in Christ and supporter of the Lutheran Church of Reconciliation in Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to LCOR or to your favorite charity.
