Shelby Jean Eason, 77, active with Brunswick County Literacy Council

TOWN CREEK — Shelby Jean Eason, 77, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Thursday, Nov. 29, 2018.

Mrs. Eason was born March 21, 1941, in Wilson County, daughter of the late Thomas W. Smith and Gladys Batchelor Smith. She was a member of Town Creek Baptist Church. She was musically gifted and passed that gift down to her family. She and her family sang together for many years. Her spunky and feisty personality carried her through many tough times in her life.

Mrs. Eason was a well-respected leader in the Town Creek community, as she welcomed many into her home to share her wisdom and talents. She also worked with the Brunswick County Literacy Council.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Harvey Earl Eason; brother, Rudolph Smith; sister, Rachel Smith; and grandchildren, Joy, Adam, Louis and Angela. Mrs. Eason loved the Lord with all her heart and enjoyed sharing that love with others.

Survivors include her daughters, Susan Thigpen, and her husband, Rory, of Ocean Isle Beach, Cheryl Walton, and her husband, Dennis of Boiling Spring Lakes, Carolyn Young, and her husband, Ken, of Leland, Margaret “Lu Lu” Sullivan, and her husband, Tommy, of Leland, Bridgette Vaught, and her husband, James, of North Myrtle Beach, and Sarah “Skooter” Bordeaux, and her husband, Chris, of Leland; sisters, Lois Brown of Virginia and Betty Williams of Wilson; brothers, Marvin Smith of Kenley, Tim Smith of Roanoke Rapids and Phillip Smith of Wilson; 17 grandchildren; and a multitude of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, Dec. 3, at Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral and Cremation Service in Southport. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 4, at Town Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Rory Thigpen and the Rev. Vic Potter officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Eason’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
