BRUNSWICK COUNTY — Effective 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 27, 2025, the Brunswick County Fire Marshal’s Office has lifted a ban on all open burning within 100 feet of an occupied structure for the unincorporated areas within Brunswick County.
Burn bans have also been lifted in Leland, Oak Island and Belville.
Brunswick County’s ban was originally issued on Oct. 23, 2025, due to unfavorable weather conditions forecasted for the area. This burn ban did not apply to any open burning permits issued by the North Carolina Forest Service or the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality.
Brunswick County is reminding residents that only natural vegetation, which includes leaves, tree trimmings, or yard debris, can be legally burned within 100 feet of an occupied structure. Any outdoor burning that occurs more than 100 feet from a structure requires a permit from the North Carolina Forest Service.
