Celebration of life planned Friday for former Wrightsville Beach fire department lieutenant

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH — A retired Wrighstville Beach Fire Department lieutenant and assistant fire chief at Seagate, Mike Garner, passed away Tuesday in a car crash in Pender County, according to WECT news.

Garner was involved in a head-on collision after his truck crossed the yellow line and crashed into a tractor trailer on Highway 210 near Rocky Point, the station reported.

On Friday, Apr. 9, at 11 a.m., there will be a celebration of life held in honor on the 67-year-old. It will be hosted at the Wrightsville Beach Public Safety Building at 3 Bob Sawyer Dr. A private procession will arrive around 10:45 a.m. where the public is welcomed to gather safely. Attendees are asked to be masked and social distance per Covid-19 protocols.

Wrightsville Beach Park will be closed on Friday, April 9, 2021 from 7 a.m. – 1 p.m.
