The Agenda: 2 school board meetings, open house coming up for Independence Boulevard Ext.

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Every Monday Port City Daily will share upcoming government and community meetings around the tri-county region. If there’s an item of public interest, it will be included, too.

Tuesday, Nov. 25

The Pender County Board of Education Committee of the Whole meets at 9:30 a.m. at the Dr. Katherine Herring Resource Center, 798 US HWY 117 in Burgaw. The meeting will be broadcast on the PCS YouTube channel. There will be no public comment during the meeting, but the agenda includes:

  • 3000 policy review
  • 4120 policy update
  • J.H. Lea update on build-out

The New Hanover County Board of Education will hold an agenda review at the Board of Education Center 1805 S. 13th St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • 2025 audit presentation
  • Public records request update
  • Employee bonus ad-hoc committee review

In accordance with G.S. 143-318.12, a quorum of the Board will be in attendance. The Board will convene to discuss personnel matters and will enter closed session immediately upon assembling. Following closed session, commissioners may vote on the contract for a new County Manager.

Walker St., to discuss a personnel matter, In accordance with G.S. 143-318.12, a quorum of the board will be in attendance and enter closed session immediately upon assembling. Following closed session, commissioners may vote on the contract for a new county manager.

Thursday, Nov. 27

Thanksgiving holiday; government offices closed.

Monday, Dec. 1

Looking ahead to after Thanksgiving, the North Carolina Department of Transportation is proposing a 1.7-mile extension of Independence Boulevard to improve mobility and reduce traffic congestion through central Wilmington. An open house and public hearing will take place on Monday, Dec. 1, 5 p.m., at Girls Leadership Academy of Wilmington Cafeteria, 4100 Sunglow Dr. Read PCD coverage here and learn more from NCDOT about the project here.
