Brunswick County to break ground on $100M health, emergency services hub

BRUNSWICK COUNTY — Brunswick County will have a groundbreaking ceremony on Monday, Aug. 17, on a four-story facility that will consolidate health, social services and emergency operations departments at the county government complex in Bolivia.

The public ceremony will begin at 3:30 p.m. near Building B, which houses Social Services, at 60 Government Center Drive. The event is free, and registration is not required. Parking will be available in front of the building.

The approximately 140,000-square-foot Health and Human Services and Emergency Operations Center will house Health Services, Social Services, Environmental Health, Public Housing, Emergency Management and Veterans Services. It will also include a disaster-resilient emergency operations center on the top floor.

The project is expected to cost about $100 million and is the first major component of the county’s Government Complex Master Plan, approved in 2021. Previous county plans called for the facility to be completed in February 2028.

Edifice Construction is serving as the project’s contractor.
