PENDER COUNTY — Pender County Schools Superintendent Brad Breedlove has been named regional superintendent of the year by the Southeast Education Alliance.
Breedlove, who has been in the position since January 2023, was awarded the honor among 14 other districts in contention, including Beaufort, Brunswick, Carteret, Clinton, Craven, Duplin, Jones, Lenoir, New Hanover, Onslow, Pamlico, Pender, Sampson, and Wayne.
“I am grateful to be recognized for this honor, but no superintendent earns an award like this alone,” Breedlove said in a press release. “This is really a district honor, highlighting the high quality of our employees across Pender County Schools and the steady leadership, guidance, and support provided by our Board of Education.”
Pender County Board of Education Chair Don Hall congratulated Breedlove on the recognition and praised the steady leadership he has provided for the district.
“Dr. Breedlove’s selection as Regional Superintendent of the Year is a well-deserved recognition of his steady leadership, his commitment to students and staff, and his ability to bring people together around the work of public education,” Hall said in a press release. “He leads with both passion and compassion, and his advocacy for Pender County Schools and rural southeastern North Carolina continues to make a meaningful difference. On behalf of the Board of Education, we are proud to congratulate Dr. Breedlove on this outstanding honor.”
Per the award letter from the alliance, Breedlove was awarded due to his focused and positive perspective on the work necessary for schools and his voice “has been instrumental in building shared responsibility in public service.” The superintendent also works collaboratively with stakeholders at all levels.
The award also includes a nomination for the 2027 A. Craig Phillips North Carolina Superintendent of the Year award, to be announced in November. The state winner will go on to compete for the national award of National Superintendent of the Year to be offered by the American Association of School Administrators in the early Spring of 2027.
