SURF CITY — One Pender County beach town has begun a two-month stormwater project that may disrupt travel. Area residents are asked to be aware of traffic pattern changes during construction.
In Surf City, the stormwater project will take place along Mecklenburg Avenue and North Topsail Drive. It’s expected to last roughly two months from its start date of April 27.
The project will improve drainage, reduce roadway flooding, and strengthen overall stormwater management in the area. Outcomes will be similar too projects that already took place at the intersections of Seahorse Avenue/South Shore Drive and Roland Avenue/Shore Drive, with an underground infiltration basin and pervious pavers.
During construction, the intersection of Mecklenburg Avenue and North Topsail Drive will be closed to traffic. Thus, motorists should expect detours as temporary traffic patterns shift with heavy construction activity.
