WILMINGTON — CFPUA customers in the downtown area will be under a precautionary boil water advisory and may experience temporary periods of low pressure and/or outages starting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, while crews replace broken valves in the water system.

The advisory will affect approximately 200 customers with addresses in:

  • The 300, 400, and 500 blocks of South Front Street
  • The 100 block of Ann Street
  • The 0, 100, 200, and 300 blocks of Nunn Street
  • The 300, 400, and 500 blocks of South Second Street
  • The 0, 100, and 200 blocks of Church Street
  • The 500 block of Surry Street
  • The 0 block of Castle Street
  • The 300 and 400 blocks of South Third Street

Replacing broken values is a routine part of CFPUA’s water system maintenance. These valves allow CFPUA to isolate parts of the water distribution system during construction, maintenance, or emergencies such as water main breaks. Periods of low or no pressure in the water distribution system increase the potential for back siphonage and introduction of bacteria into the water system.

When under a boil water advisory, customers are asked to boil their water for one minute, then allow it to cool prior to consumption. Alternatively, they may use another water source such as bottled water. Consumption includes drinking, brushing teeth, making ice, food preparation, fruit and vegetable washing, pet consumption, and the preparation of baby formula. Customers do not need to boil water prior to using it for showering or bathing.
