BRUNSWICK COUNTY — As of 5 p.m. on Monday, a burn ban will go into effect in Brunswick County’s unincorporated areas, as well as in the town of limits of its largest municipality, Leland.

The ban will prohibit burning within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling. The ban does not apply to open burn permits that have been approved nor fireworks displays already permitted. However, the use of legal personal fireworks are not advised.

According to the National Weather Service Wilmington office, high temperatures and indexes reaching 100 degrees are not favorable for burning. As well, Brunswick County is under a stage one water conservation alert Brunswick County Public Utilities. The ban remains in effect until conditions improve.
