WILMINGTON — Cape Fear Community College is planning an in-person information session for its associate degree nursing program to those seeking a career in the in-demand health care career.

The event will take place on Jan. 11 from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. in room 387 of Union Station, 502 N. Front St.
The information session is open to current and prospective students and will offer an in-depth look at the major. The session will include:
· Guided tour of the nursing instruction labs
· Presentation about the ADN program
· Opportunities to meet and interact with faculty members
· Opportunity to meet with staff from CFCC’s Health Sciences Enrollment Center to determine if individuals meet application requirements
“The in-person information session is a fantastic opportunity for individuals considering a career in nursing to gain firsthand knowledge about our Associate Degree Nursing program,” Dr. Mary Ellen Naylor, Dean of Health and Human Sciences, said in a press release. “We encourage all prospective students to attend, take advantage of the guided tour, and connect with our staff to explore the exciting possibilities within the nursing field.”
Cape Fear Community College’s Associate Degree Nursing Program was ranked the top-rated program in North Carolina and the fifth-best nursing program in the Southeast by NursingProcess.org.
The college is also preparing a new building for its allied health programs at its downtown campus. The new building, purchased by New Hanover County in 2022, is expected to provide 50,000 square feet over five stories. The facility will be renovated with classroom and lab space — which would come with onsite parking — costing $14.8 million across fiscal year budgets until 2027.
CFCC and UNCW, which many CFCC ADN graduates attend to receive their bachelor’s degree, are also looking to increase their nursing student enrollment. The two entities, along with New Hanover County Schools and the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce, are launching a health care talent pipeline with a $22.3 million grant from the New Hanover County endowment.
