CAROLINA BEACH — Carolina Beach residents can weigh in on flooding, drainage, and storm impacts in their areas through Carolina Beach’s coastal resilience project survey until Friday, Sept. 25.
Carolina Beach and the Northend Flood Mitigation Alliance is asking the community to participate in the Resilient Coastal Communities Program survey to rank 19 potential projects to address stormwater flooding, shoreline erosion, sea-level rise, and infrastructure risks for further evaluation, funding and implementation.
“The goal is to create a process where the Town and the community can work together to identify needs, establish priorities, pursue funding opportunities, and develop practical solutions,” said Stephen Taylor, President of NFMA, in a press release.
The alliance provides community flood support in addressing flooding issues on the north end of Carolina Beach. The organization focuses on flood risk reduction by implementing programs aimed at decreasing the frequency of flooding and minimizing the duration of floodwaters that remain on the streets.
Earlier this month, the Town of Carolina Beach issued Resolution No. 26-2359 acknowledging and addressing the need for flood mitigation solutions. The resolution also recognizes the role of residents and community organization in identifying flooding concerns, sharing local knowledge, and participating in the public process.
