BRUNSWICK COUNTY — Brunswick County Commissioner Frank Williams announced his intention to file for reelection Monday, stating his desire to continue his conservative leadership and expand on past accomplishments.
Williams, who represents district five, touted his track record and commitment to conservative principles in a statement Monday. He was first elected on November 6, 2012.
“Under our fiscally conservative leadership, Brunswick County has maintained one of the lowest property tax rates of any county in North Carolina, built a strong rainy-day fund that has weathered multiple storms, directed resources toward critical priorities like public safety and public education, steadily expanded our water and sewer infrastructure, and successfully enhanced our economic development and job recruitment efforts,” he said in the statement. “Additionally, our County has won multiple awards for financial reporting and transparency, received clean audits year after year, and maintained a strong credit rating.”
He stated his desire to continue efforts to recruit high-quality jobs to the county and expand water and sewer infrastructure in the fast-growing county while maintaining a vigilance against excessive taxation and regulation
“While I’m proud of our record of common-sense conservative leadership, there is still work to be done – particularly given our status as one of the fastest-growing counties in the nation,” Williams added. “Moving forward, we must review and update our development ordinances to protect our quality of life as our county continues to grow.”
Williams currently serves as the Chair of the Cape Fear Rural Planning Organization Transportation Advisory Committee, and previously held leadership positions as the Chair of the Board of Commissioners, and board member of Wilmington Urban Metropolitan Planning Organization, Lower Cape Fear Water & Sewer Authority, and Brunswick Business & Industry Development.
Having served on the board of directors of Communities and Schools of Brunswick County, he also announced his intention to prioritize the Brunswick County Board of Education to ensure it has sufficient resources to give schools adequate, safe facilities.
Williams lives in Leland and grew up in the rural community of Northwest in Brunswick County. He is among the fourth generation of his mother’s family to live in the county. He earned his undergraduate degree from N.C. State University in 1993.
He founded public relations and strategic communications firm Pioneer Strategies in 2001 and remains president of the company. He and his wife Lori co-founded Pioneer Specialties, a promotional products distribution company, in January 2019.
