BALD HEAD ISLAND — The Bald Head Island barge, which runs alongside the island’s ferry, will not be operational Monday, Nov. 6, and it’s unclear when service will continue.

According to a release from the Village of Bald Head Island, repairs need to be made and the estimated time of completion is unknown currently.

In the meantime, food, mail, toiletries, etc., will be transported to the island via ferry.  However, hauling waste off the island and fuel deliveries will pause while repairs are underway. As a result, the village is encouraging islanders to do what they can to conserve waste and fuel until further notice is given on the barge’s status.

Also, some packages may not make it to the island until barge service resumes due to limited capacity on the ferries.
