NEW HANOVER COUNTY — The N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles License Plate Agency in Market Plaza Shopping Center will close at 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 22.

The agency — which issues title transactions, vehicle registrations and more — has been run by Charles Garrett since 2003 at 13 S. Kerr Ave. Garrett’s contract has ended; in the state, private businesses or governments can own the locations which NCDMV oversees.

The policy is to open applications for commissioned operators upon a contract ending or if a new agency is brought to a county. There are 128 license plate agencies in North Carolina.

NCDMV has an Oct. 20 deadline for applicants, which can be found here with questions forwarded to 910-763-6752.

Other license plate agencies in the area will continue to operate Monday through Friday:

  • Wilmington, 2390 Carolina Beach Rd., Suite 108., from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., 910-763-7076
  • Bolivia, 30 Government Dr. N.E., from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., 910-253-2712

As well, services can be accessed online: www.MyNCDMV.gov.
