SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — A health insurance provider will allow customers to refill prescriptions early as Hurricane Idalia moves through Florida and up the coast of the Carolinas as a projected tropical storm.
The tri-county region is under a tropical storm warning through Thursday; winds and flooding are expected beginning Wednesday evening.
As part of building an emergency kit, having enough supply of medications is necessary. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina will allow early prescription refills for all statewide customers in 100 counties through Sept. 26, according to a release from the provider.
“This policy also applies to Blue Cross NC members in other states of emergency, outside of North Carolina, connected to Hurricane Idalia,” the release noted.
The refills must be requested while the state of emergency declaration is in effect, which Gov. Roy Cooper announced Tuesday. Questions regarding BCBS coverage can be assessed at the self-service portal here.
The early prescription refill policy does not apply to controlled substances. BCBS advises its members to go to the hospital in the event of an emergency.
