WILMINGTON — A home invasion that took place Tuesday left multiple people shot with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to Wilmington Police Department, the shooting took place in the 400 block of Rutledge Drive around 5:40 p.m. A suspect fired inside the residence, exited outside toward the vehicle, fired more shots and fled the scene.

The three people shot were transported to Novant Health NHRMC by EMS.

WPD said it’s “not a random act of violence,” rather an isolated incident and drug-related.

“A number of shooting incidents that our department responds to often have a drug or gang nexus,” Chief Donny Williams said in a press release. “Individuals who are part of a lifestyle involving illegal narcotics, gang activity, or other criminal activity are more susceptible to becoming a victim. We encourage the public to always be aware of what is going on around them. If you happen to know of possible illegal activity taking place near your home or business, please report it to the authorities.”

Anyone with information should contact the WPD at (910) 343-3609. The public can also use the anonymous Tip 411 app.
