NEW HANOVER — Following the retirement of Nicholas Gadzekpo from the county’s permitting director position, another New Hanover County employee is stepping into the role.

The county announced it has hired JD Limberger, who will transition officially on Aug. 8. Limeberger has worked for the county for 13 years, first as finance supervisor before moving into the Office of Strategy in 2018.

“JD has been integral in shaping the strategic direction of New Hanover County,” County Manager Chris Coudriet said in a press release. “In his capacity as Senior Strategist, he has consistently contributed to the development and implementation of strategic initiatives, optimizing processes across various departments.”

According to Coudriet, the strategist helped overhaul the building safety permitting system. It improved customer service and led to a reduction time in application processing.

Limberger, originally in the financial sector up north, moved to North Carolina in 2005. He helped run his family’s Connecticut business in foundation work and fabrication for eight years before working in finance.

“Construction has always been a part of my life, and this role provides an opportunity to contribute to that sector in a unique way within our community,” Limeberger said in a press release. “I’m proud of the process improvements we’ve implemented and look forward to discovering even more ways to boost efficiency.”
