NEW HANOVER COUNTY — A new study positions one Cape Fear county in the top 10 wealthiest in the state.
New Hanover County is listed number eight in North Carolina for highest per capita wealth in a study done by SmartAsset.
To identify the wealth of U.S. counties, the financial resource SmartAsset analyzed three metrics: investment income, property value, and median income.
New Hanover’s median income was reported at $62,362 — higher than the state average at $60,516. Its investment income was listed at $52,347 — nearly double the state average of $26,814, and median home value was listed at $400,840, significantly higher than the state average of $259,411.
Listed as the overall wealthiest county in North Carolina is Orange County with a median income of $79,205 and median home value of $456,878.
Others on the top 10 list include Wake, Chatham, Dare, Union, Currituck, Mecklenburg, Buncombe, and Durham counties.
