The Agenda: This week in local government

Southport Planning Board Review meeting will be hosted at 8:30 a.m. at the Fire Department Substation, 111 E. Nash Street.

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Every Monday Port City Daily will share upcoming government meetings around the tri-county region. If there’s an item of public interest, we’ll include that below the listed meeting, too.

Monday, Feb. 13

The Brunswick County Planning Board will meet at 6 p.m. in the Commissioners’ Chambers in the David R. Sandifer Administration Building, 30 Government Center Dr NE in Bolivia. There will be a public comment, regarding the proposed Admirals Cove development. The agenda can be accessed here.

Oak Island Town Council meeting takes place Feb. 13, 6 p.m. in the Oak Island Chambers of town hall. The agenda includes public hearings, two regarding the Boardwalk Place application and a mini golf application, request of a local act Local Act to allow the town to adopt and enact ordinances regulating trees and more. Tuesday, Feb. 14

The Town of Burgaw Board of Commissioners will meet at 4:30 p.m. at the Historic Train Depot, 115 S. Dickerson St. A few items on the agenda include:

  • A parking analysis
  • An update to the town’s ordinances in reference to cemeteries 
  • A public hearing to update the unified development ordinance regarding tree removal permits

The Wilmington Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization’s Bike Ped Committee will meet at 2 p.m. at 305 Chestnut St. An agenda was not posted by press.

New Hanover County School Board Policy Committee meeting takes place at 10 a.m. at 1805 S. 13th St. The agenda can be found here.

The New Hanover County Board of Elections will host a meeting Tuesday, Feb. 14, 5:15 p.m., in the Longleaf Room at the Board of Elections Office, 1241A Military Cutoff Road. Public comment can be emailed to newhanover.boe@nhcgov.com by noon, Feb. 13. There is limited in-person seating; to participate via phone, dial 1-646-931-3860 and enter meeting ID 864 5516 4847 followed by pound. It’s also available to access via Zoom here.

Carolina Beach Town Council will meet at 6 p.m., Feb. 14, in council chambers, 1121 N. Lake Park Boulevard. There will be a public hearing regarding a zoning map amendment to rezone 209 Charlotte Avenue from mixed use to central business district as well as an amendment to town rates and fees. The Pender County Board of Education will meet Feb. 14, 6 p.m. at Dr. Katherine Herring Resource Center, 798 Us Highway 117 S, Burgaw. The agenda includes a second read on the Narcan policy, calendar 2023-2024 school year adoption, and elementary curriculum adoption.

A special called Southport Planning Board Review meeting will be hosted at 8:30 a.m. at the Fire Department Substation, 111 E. Nash Street. The purpose of this review committee meeting is to discuss the consideration of a partial alley abandonment on the property between 9th Street and Caswell Avenue. 

Wednesday, Feb. 15

Pender County Board of Adjustment will meet at 9 a.m. at the public assembly room, 805 S. Walker St. in Burgaw. The agenda has one item: a variance seeking relief from tree mitigation requirements on 7.9 acres in Topsail Township.

The Surf City Board of Adjustment will meet at 3 p.m. at town hall, 214 W. Florence Way.

The Town of Burgaw Beautification Committee will hold a special meeting at 8:30 a.m. at the Historic Train Depot, 115 S. Dickerson St. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss proposed projects for the upcoming fiscal year 2023-2024 budget.

Brunswick Regional Water and Sewer H2GO at Belville Town Hall, 63 River Rd. SE, 6 p.m. Items on agenda include an AIA grant resolution of acceptance-water, RO water treatment update and commissioner’s report.

The Wrightsville Beach Board of Alderman will meet at 5:30 p.m. at Wrightsville Beach Town Hall Council Chambers 321 Causeway Dr. The agenda includes approval of budget amendments, including establishing the Powell Bill revenue fund, set a public hearing for off-street park requirements and applying for a SAFER grant to hire six additional firefighters.

Thursday, Feb. 16

The Wilmington Board of Adjustment will meet at 1 p.m. at city hall, 102 N Third St. The meeting can be livestreamed on GTV8 and YouTube. An agenda was not posted by press.

The Burgaw Planning and Zoning Board will meet at 5:30 p.m. at the Historic Train Depot, 115 S. Dickerson St.

The Leland Town Council will meet at 6 p.m. at 102 Town Hall Drive. The meeting can be livestreamed via YouTube. The council will consider an ordinance amendment to simplify its rules on subdivided parcels abutting streets.

The Town of Navassa will meet at 7:30 p.m. An agenda was not posted by press.

Southport Planning Board meeting takes place at Southport Community Building, located at 223 East Bay Street. It can be livestreamed here. On the agenda is the revision of a major tractor supply site plan, a conditional zoning condition and updates on ongoing projects. 

Friday, Feb. 17

The New Hanover County Board of Commissioners will hold a special meeting at 8:15 a.m. at the New Hanover County Government Center, 230 Government Center Drive. The purpose of the meeting is to hold a closed session pursuant to G.S. 143-318.11(a)(6) concerning a personnel matter.
