Joint New Hanover-Pender operation nabs heroin and firearm, $500,000 bond for suspect

NEW HANOVER COUNTY — Detectives with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, along with partners in the Pender County Sheriff’s Office, concluded a 5-month-long investigation this week, ending with an arrest and seizure of heroin and handgun.

According to NHCSO, 31-year-old Carlos Garcia, Jr. was arrested on Wednesday, August 26. Detectives executed a search warrant at 614 Montclair Drive in an apartment complex off of Kerr Avenue.

A search of the residence revealed over 600 bags of heroin, approximately 15.8 grams of unpackaged raw heroin, a Ruger 9mm handgun, and assorted drug paraphernalia.

Garcia was arrested for trafficking heroin and is currently being held in the New Hanover County Detention Facility under a $500,000 secured bond.

Garcia faces the following charges:

  • Trafficking Heroin (2 counts)
  • Possession of a Firearm by a Felon
  • Maintaining a Dwelling
  • Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Heroin
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
