WILMINGTON — It’s a project that has been four years in the making, and now, nearly one year after submitting initial plans to the City of Wilmington new plans have arrived for Dram Tree Tavern.
The project is located at 1805 Washington Street and is the home to an old, blue house just a few blocks from Greenfield Lake.
Last year, Associate Planner Jeff Walton weighed in on the plans that were submitted and said it appeared that the project would renovate the old house, install an open deck, and construct a parking lot on the property.
New plans show the concept for that parking lot indicating the project is moving forward, but construction at the property does not appear to have commenced.
Walt Cartier, the owner and developer of the project, said the tavern was permitted in 2017 but construction was delayed when the city had to replace gas lines on Burnett Avenue and again by problems that arose from Hurricane Florence, Port City Daily previously reported.
He also said that the project would be a tavern with some outdoor music space and that the name, Dram Tree Tavern, could just be a placeholder and things could change when the tavern is opened.
Last year Cartier said that construction was hopefully going to begin within eight weeks (this was in April), but on the outside at least, it does not appear that much has been done.
