Update: NHCS substitute teacher arrested, charged with urinating in front of students

WILMINGTON — Authorities have arrested a substitute teacher after an incident at Williston Middle School; the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office alleges that he urinated in a cup in front of students.

According to the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office (NHCSO), 57-year-old Darvin Bernard Greene was arrested following an incident at Williston Middle School on Tuesday. According to NHCSO, shortly after 10 a.m. Greene allegedly urinated in a cup in a classroom while students were present.

Greene is charged with indecent exposure, disorderly conduct, and defacing a public building. He is currently being held in the New Hanover County Detention Center on a $5,000 secure bond.

Port City Daily has requested Greene’s public employment records from the New Hanover County School district; this article will be updated with any additional information.

New Hanover County Board of Education Chairperson Lisa Estep issued the following statement, referring to Greene as a ‘former’ employee.

The board has been made aware of the alleged actions of Darvin Green[e] and we regret that this happened at any New Hanover County School. Upon being notified by a student of Green[e]’s actions, the school system acted immediately, conducted an internal investigation, and then quickly notified law enforcement. Darvin Green[e] will no longer be allowed to work for New Hanover County Schools. This type of behavior will not be tolerated and this board stands ready to take action against any teacher, staff member, or administrator who violates the law or, in any way, compromises the safety or wellbeing of our students.
