LELAND — When the Town of Leland Parks and Recreation department noticed its first movie in the park date would fall on May 4th, its staff couldn’t help themselves.
“You can’t let an opportunity like this go to waste,” Amy Wells, Leland’s parks and recreation supervisor, said.

With the stars aligned, Leland will bring the force by showing “The Last Jedi” at the Municipal Park on Saturday.
The showing will be the town’s first screening for its seasonal Movies in the Park series. With five showings starting May 4, a free movie will start at sunset every Saturday through June 15.
Participants are strongly encouraged to break out their “lightsabers and Princess Leia buns,” according to Leland’s spokesperson Hilary Snow. The town will host a costume contest for adults and kids before the show starts, along with other Star Wars themed activities.
No alcohol or pets are allowed at the family-friendly event. However, blankets, lawn chairs, picnics, and friends and family are welcome. Food and beverages will be available onsite for purchase. For more town-sponsored happenings, visit Leland Parks and Recreation’s upcoming events website or Facebook page.
Each movie begins at sunset at the Leland Municipal Park.
