Year in review: Top five stories from 2018, number three

Detectives captured ten times more fentanyl than during a successful operation on November 30 of last year, a bust that was - at the time - the county's largest-ever seizure of the powerful opioid.

WILMINGTON — The past year saw a number of large drug busts in the Port City but one in particular stuck out for our readers — New Hanover County deputies seized enough fentanyl to kill everyone in the county twice.

The actual bust came from November of 2017 but the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office announced the bust in January. At the time of the bust, it was the county’s largest-ever seizure of the powerful drug.
