In Pictures: Lighting up Buckhorn Court

'Tis the season in Murrayville as the residents of one cul-de-sac all pull their weight in taking their Christmas decorations to the next level.

WILMINGTON — Although the popular “A&K House” in the Kings Grant area has cancelled its annual light production due to damages from Florence — the owner said it draws in up to 6,500 visitors each December —  further north in Murrayville one street is gearing up for its own collective light display.

For 22 years, resident Arnold Carr has helped lead the charge in a cul-de-sac where most of the houses take Christmas decorations to the next level. This year all the neighbors pitched in for a boom to extend their reach to decorate roofs and large trees.

“On good nights we get 300 to 400 cars in here,” Carr said. “Christmas Eve is a big night. We got a long weekend before Christmas this year, so we’ll do the street lumineers for two to three days in a row. And that lights up everything and really draws traffic in.”

Although some residents are still making repairs from roof damages sustained from Hurricane Florence, Carr said that by next weekend most houses on the street should be “all lit up.”
