WILMINGTON — Changes could be coming to this year’s New Hanover County Schools calendars following Hurricane Florence. Half days would now become full days and school days will be a bit longer if the changes are approved.
According to a New Hanover County Schools press release, changes would include:
- Traditional Calendar
-
Traditional calendar schools will change four teacher development half days to full instructional days for students: October 26, December 20, February 22, April 5
-
The Monday after Easter, April 22, and the Friday before winter break, December 21, are now full student days.
-
Ten minutes will be added to the beginning and end of each school day beginning on December 1, 2018, and lasting through the rest of the school year, in an effort to make up instructional time.
-
-
Year-Round Calendar
-
Year-round calendar schools will change three of their teacher development half days to full days: October 26, December 14, February 22.
-
The Monday after Easter, April 22, is now a full student day.

The Board of Education will meet Nov. 7 to vote on the proposed changes to the schedule for the 2018-2019 school calendar.
The Board of Education also met recently to discuss changes to the 2019-202 school year calendar but they have not yet been approved.
