Carolina Beach will discuss Freeman Park land acquisition in closed-door meeting

The Freeman Park fracas began in February when property owners erected fencing on the beach forcing the closure of the park.

CAROLINA BEACH — It has been several months since the Town of Carolina Beach notified property owners along the north end of Freeman Park of its intent to acquire their property either through voluntary sale or eminent domain. But since the notifications were sent to property owners in March, the LLCs that own the property in question have remained silent.

Town Manager Michael Cramer said he has not heard anything from the property owner’s lawyer Clifton Hester regarding the town’s request to buy the properties.

In June, the town’s Board of Adjustment heard from property owners in an appeal of the town’s decision to remove fencing installed by the LLC to protect sea oats that were planted earlier this year.

On Saturday, the Town Council announced a special meeting to be held Monday at 11:30. The meeting is a closed session meeting and will be to discuss property acquisitions.

Hester has not responded to requests for comment from Port City Daily, nor did the Town Council.
