SOUTHEAST N.C.—It’s beach season again in the Cape Fear Region and with temperatures heating up, you might be tempted to cool down with a refreshing adult beverage while you soak up the sun; some municipalities are not too fond of the idea.
What could have started as a relaxing beach trip could turn into a costly incident, or even land you with criminal charges.
While some local beaches allow you to enjoy a beer on the beach, glass bottles are never permitted on any beach.
Wrightsville Beach
For those heading out to Wrightsville Beach be sure to keep your drinking of alcohol restricted to to restaurants and bars.
According to the Wrightsville Beach Police Department a violation of the regulation will result in a $100 citation, if you are caught with glass on the beach it is an additional fine.
Carolina Beach
It might come as a surprise for some, but alcohol is not permitted on the beach in the Town of Carolina Beach.
In Freeman Park, beer is permitted, but like all other beaches, glass bottles are prohibited.
Kure Beach
Another Pleasure Island beach that forbids the consumption of alcohol on the beach. Violations will cost you $50 for a first offense and a second offense can result in a misdemeanor.
Fort Fisher State Recreation Area
Although having a cookout at the beach park at Fort Fisher is permitted, alcohol is not permitted at any state park.
Surf City
Visitors to Surf City are allowed to consume alcohol on the beach but, according to town ordinances, it is illegal to consume the drinks within 500 feet of the Roland Avenue beach access gazebo. Glass containers are also prohibited.
Topsail Beach
At Topsail Beach beer is allowed, provided it is in a can, Glass is prohibited.
