LELAND—It’s been over five months since Leland closed Ploof Road due to ongoing construction. Now, residents can finally travel down the road that connects to Highway 17.

Leland announced late last week that the road had opened after months of delays.

Construction on Ploof Road previously had completion dates of Feb. 9, and then March 9, which were both missed due to delays caused by winter weather.

Ploof Road first closed on Dec. 4 in connection with the new ALDI grocery store and Leland Town Center. The contractor and North Carolina Department of Transportation have been working on the road since ALDI opened in December. Residents used a temporary detour to access the new store for months.

According to Leland’s economic and community development director, Gary Vidmar, the road improvements were made to accommodate increased traffic that was anticipated with the opening of ALDI and other new businesses in the Leland Town Center.
