LELAND — The long-awaited Leland ALDI is set to open next week.
The store, the Cape Fear region’s third ALDI, is set to open on Thursday, Dec. 7, according to a press release.
The store is at the corner of Ploof Road and U.S. Highway 17 in a new 60-acre commercial development called Leland Town Center.
The store was near completion in October, but did not have an opening date because of unfinished road construction near the store.
In an effort to move things along, Gary Vidmar, the town of Leland’s Economic and Community Development Director, said he was meeting with representatives from ALDI, the North Carolina Department of Transportation and the contractor to allow ALDI to open before the road was complete.
The most recent Leland Economic Development Update states the necessary construction of phase 1 road improvements for the overall Leland Town Center is underway and that the ALDI is set to open by the end of this year.
“The town of Leland is excited that ALDI has selected Leland to be the location of its third store in the Cape Fear Region. This is just another example of the attention that our growing town is getting from national retailers,” Vidmar said.
ALDI has already opened two stores in Wilmington this year — one on Market Street and the other on College Road. According to the press release, this “aggressive” growth strategy is a part of an effort to create nearly 2,500 stores nationwide by the end of 2022.
ALDI claims to keep costs and prices low with smaller stores, quality controls, and private label product selection.
The new Leland location will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
