LELAND — Construction on Ploof Road in Leland continues to stall after an initial deadline has come and gone.
Last week, the project missed its planned March 9 completion date. But this is just one of several delays to the reopening of the road. In January the town issued a statement regarding delays thanks to the winter weather.
“The winter storm has caused a significant delay to the completion of the construction on Ploof Road. Due to the weather delays, Ploof Road is now expected to reopen no earlier than February 9,” Economic and Community Development Director Gary Vidmar said in a press release.
In February the town released the following a statement with the hopes of reopening the road by early March.
“The completion of the Ploof Road area road improvements has been delayed due to adverse weather conditions experienced during the past two months. Ploof Road is now expected to reopen by March 9. The balance of the improvements to the intersection of Hwy. 17 and Ploof Road are scheduled to be completed by April 1,” according to the town’s press release.
But nearly one week later there is still no definite timeline for reopening.
“Unfortunately I do not have any new and accurate updated information. Apparently the work is being affected by an offsite issue that we are trying to learn more about,” Vidmar said.
