ST. JAMES — Sue Yancey Brewer, 81, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2018. Mrs. Brewer was born Oct. 5, 1936, in Cumberland, Maryland, to the late Robert G. and Mary Phillipa Yancey.
Mrs. Brewer and her husband lived in Maryland as newlyweds. However, for the remainder of their 51-plus years together, they lived in Gainesville, Florida; Tullahoma, Tennessee, (greater than 20 years), Brussels, Belgium; Malvern, Pennsylvania; Santa Clarita, California; Medford, New Jersey; and St. James, North Carolina, for the last 21 years. She loved all of their adventures.
For many years, she played tennis and skied. Mrs. Brewer’s main passion was bridge. She enjoyed volunteering at the Southport Visitor’s Center for years and was a longtime member of Vintage Ladies. In addition, she loved to read and spend game nights with her grandsons.
Mrs. Brewer was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. LeRoy E. Brewer Jr.; and brother, Robert G. Yancey Jr.
Survivors include her daughter, Jennifer McCoy, and her husband, Eric, of Johns Creek, Georgia; grandchildren, Ian McCoy of Columbus, Georgia, and Kyle McCoy of Leadville, Colorado; sister, Olivia Sheehan of Kare Kare, New Zealand; and sister-in-law, Janice Spigler of Lutherville, Maryland.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, May 3, at the Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral Home Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice.
