WILMINGTON — After pleading guilty in New Hanover County District Court, a man will serve up to two years in prison for possessing a firearm.

Raheem Quintezz McAllister, 24, was arrested at around 2:30 a.m. on July 13, 2016. After Wilmington police pulled over the car he was riding in at South 8th and Queen streets was stopped by Wilmington police. When the vehicle was searched, officers found a Smith and Wesson .38 Special CTG handgun on the floorboard of the passenger seat where McAllister had been seated.

According to Wilmington police, the serial number on the handgun had been removed and the crime lab was not able to determine if it was a stolen weapon.

However, authorities were able to charge McAllister with possession of a firearm by a felon. McAllister had previously been convicted of a felony – a breaking and entering case in Columbus county – in March of 2011.

Assistant District Attorney Connie Jordan prosecuted the case.

“This conviction exposes Mr. McAllister to habitual felon status if he is charged with another felony after his release from prison,” Jordan said.

McAllister will serve between 12 and 24 months in prison. Following McAllister’s guilty plea, the firearm will be transferred to the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office to be destroyed.
