WILMINGTON — A Wilmington woman already convicted numerous times on assault and larceny charges is heading to prison after pleading guilty this week for two more incidents.

Deirdre Lashon Clay pleaded guilty in New Hanover Superior Court Monday to two counts of felony larceny, assaulting a law enforcement officer, and assault with a deadly weapon.  She will spend the next 5 1/2 to 7 1/2 years in jail.

The charges come from larcenies and assaults in 2016 and 2017, according to a press release from District Attorney Ben David’s office.

On April 7, 2016, Clay threatened to stab an employee at Stein Mart while stealing two shirts, according to the release. On May 16, 2017, Clay assaulted and threatened employees at Lowe’s Home Improvement on College Road while stealing Tide and
Febreeze.

When found after the Lowe’s incident, Clay assaulted an officer, the release states.

“The assault with a deadly weapon incident arose when Clay stabbed someone after being asked to vacate her residence,” the release states. “The injuries from the stab wound were minor.”

Clay had been convicted of at least fourteen prior larcenies. Clay also has multiple prior
convictions for assault.
