Margaret Rose Hunter, 77, ‘a teacher to her very core’

WILMINGTON — Margaret Rose Hunter, 77, wife of Kenneth Potter Hunter, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 1, 2017, surrounded by family at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, N.C.

Maggie was born Sept. 2, 1939, in Manhattan, N.Y., to the late Thomas Cassidy and Helena Cerussi Cassidy. She was the middle daughter of the “Cassidy Girls,” and she loved her sisters dearly, Claire Cassidy Cowen of West Chester, Pa., and the late Barbara Cassidy Ross.

After receiving her degree from Cabrini College, Margaret married Kenneth Potter Hunter July 1, 1961 in New York, N.Y. Margaret and Ken raised their four children in Cornwall, N.Y., before retiring to Oak Island, N.C.

She leaves a legacy of love and strength to her children, Laura Hunter Dietz, and her husband, David , of Ipswich, Mass., Tom Hunter of Minneapolis, Minn.; Elizabeth Hunter of Durham, N.C., and Meg Hunter Crissman, and her husband, John, of Garner, N.C.; five grandchildren, Jessica Dolata, Patrick Hunter, Leine Dietz, Luke Crissman and Reaghan Crissman; and three great-grandchildren, Chloe, Olive and Willa Dolata.

A teacher to her very core; she taught so many so well. We will honor her by passing on those lessons lovingly wrapped in her sharp wit, practicality, kindness, grace and dignity.

A visitation to honor her memory will be held from 2 to 4 p.m., Saturday, July 15, at Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral Home Chapel, Southport, N.C. Her family will receive friends at their home following services.
