Man arrested for downtown firearm discharge, driving through port gates

WILMINGTON — A man is facing four charges after discharging a firearm in a downtown parking lot and driving a truck through the Port of Wilmington gates.

Twenty-seven-year-old Zane Williams was arrested and charged with:

  • Second-Degree Trespassing
  • Discharge Firearm in a Reckless Manner
  • Driving While Impaired (DWI)
  • Reckless Driving

The incident took place around 1 a.m., according to Wilmington Police Department. Officers responded to a 911 call reporting a male discharged a firearm in the parking lot near 15 S. Water St. Downtown Task Force units responded to learn a dispute occurred between two men, with one of the individuals discharging his gun.

Officers searched the area when another call came in from State Port Police indicating a speeding pickup truck struck the barrier of the port gates. 

“The driver of the pickup truck matched the description of the gunman involved in the downtown incident,” according to to WPD. “Officers located and seized two firearms from the truck.”

Williams is being held under a $2,000 secured bond and no injuries were reported, as the investigation remains open.
