PODCAST: Anderson East performs two songs ahead of his election night concert in Wilmington

WILMINGTON  — Soulful rhythm and blues musician Anderson East made a stop at the Bob King Igloo for an interview on 98.3 FM The Penguin with morning radio host Kim Swinny. The interview was ahead of East’s performance at the Brooklyn Arts Center,  on election night.

Doors open at 7 p.m. Tuesday and opening act, Americana singer-songwriter Brent Cobb, is set to take the stage at 8 p.m. with East scheduled to follow. Anderson East, whose real name is Michael Anderson, recently released his debut album “Delilah,” produced by Dave Cobb. Cobb has also just recently produced albums from Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell and Sturgill Simpson.

Out of Athens, Alabama, Anderson East’s hits include “Quit You,” co-written with Chris Stapleton, as well as “Devil in Me” and “Satisfy Me,” two songs performed live earlier on The Penguin today.

In his on-air interview with Swinny, Anderson East spoke about getting to play Duane Allman’s 1957 Les Paul “Goldtop” Guitar, the same one Allman played on Eric Clapton’s “Layla.” He played it just two nights ago in Macon, Georgia.

Anderson East told Swinny that he was looking forward to the show this evening.

The Penguin concert at the Brooklyn Arts Center is one of the final concerts of the year. Just yesterday, The Brooklyn Arts Center played host to democratic Vice Presidential candidate Tim Kaine.

In celebration of music and Election Day, anyone who shows up to the concert tonight with an “I voted” sticker will automatically be entered to win a pair of seasons passes to The Penguin’s 2017 Greenfield Lake concert series. Both Swinny and afternoon Penguin Radio host and market manager for Local Voice Media Beau Gunn, will be at the Brooklyn Arts Center.
