UPDATE: Cats perish in fire that destroys home on Colony Circle

No injuries were reported to firefighters or civilians in a house fire that was reported Saturday in Wilmington.

Firefighters responded to a fire at a two-story home at 306 N. Colony Circle at about 6 p.m. Saturday, according to Wilmington Fire Department Battalion Chief Randy Burton. The fire was extinguished after about 30 minutes, but the home was deemed “a total loss” with damages estimates at $200,000, Burton said.

“The residents have been displaced and will be staying with family,” Burton said. “No injuries to civilians or firefighters have been reported, however two cats have perished in the fire.”

The New Hanover County Fire Marshal’s Office determined the fire was accidental and began in the garage, Burton said.

Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly identified the source of the fire.
