Two people were arrested on drug charges following a traffic stop Saturday.
Officers conducted a vehicle stop in the 500 block of South 18th Street at 9:03 p.m., according to police spokeswoman Cathryn Lindsay. While speaking with a female driver, a man walked up and tried to open the passenger door, Lindsay said. Officers stopped the man, who said there was a gun in the car.
Police searched the vehicle and found a .22 caliber handgun and 12 units of “love boat,” Lindsay said. According to the University of Maryland’s Center for Substance Abuse Research (CESAR), “love boat” is a common street name for a combination of marijuana and PCP.

Damon Taiwan Jones, 21, and Ashley Samone Newsome, 21, both of Wilmington, were arrested and charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver a schedule II controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a park.
Jones and Newsome were taken to the New Hanover County jail and placed under $3,000 bonds, Lindsay said.
