It will be more expensive for beachgoers to drive their vehicles on Freeman Park on the north end of Carolina Beach next year.

Members of the Carolina Beach Town Council on Tuesday approved a new fee schedule for Freeman Park that increases the cost of seasonal and daily passes for the vehicle- accessible beach. Council adopted the increased rates at the suggestion of the town’s Freeman Park Advisory Committee, which met last month to discuss the park’s fee structure, according to Town Manager Michael Cramer.

A season pass will increase from $100 to $150. A daily pass will increase to $30 from its current price of $20, and a multi-day passes were eliminated. A new pass for holiday weekends will be $50 per day.

Seasonal passes can be purchased for $75 if they’re bought between Dec. 1 and Dec. 15. Last year’s early bird price was $60. These discounted passes can only be purchased at Carolina Beach Town Hall, 1121 N. Lake Park Blvd. or at Island Tackle and Hardware Store, 801 N. Lake Park Blvd.

Freeman Park was closed last spring as town officials installed a “Hatteras” ramp at the park’s entrance that provides a solid driving surface leading onto the sand, which town officials said would alleviate traffic back-ups during peak times.
