An afternoon of outdoor fun will once again kick off Riverfest weekend.

The second annual Garden Party at Greenfield Lake gets underway at 11 a.m. Friday at the Dr. Heber W. Johnson Rotary Garden, 1960 Amphitheater Drive.

“Last year was a great event. It was fun,” Garden Party chairman Rick Stinson told Port City Radio morning host Aimee Bowen last week. “We want to make this the thing to think about whenever you talk about Riverfest.”

Local band L Shape Lot returns to this year’s Garden Party, as does Parker’s BBQ, which will be providing barbecue and all the fixings. There will be a free shuttle service at Legion Stadium to and from Greenfield Lake, and onsite tents and tables to enjoy the autumn afternoon. Mixed drinks, beer, wine and soft drinks will be available.

Tickets to the Garden Party are $55. All net proceeds from the fundraising event benefit the endowment for maintenance and improvements to the Dr. Heber W. Johnson Rotary Garden and economic and community development projects at Greenfield Lake.

“There are so many that care about economic and community development in our city, and particularly down in that Greenfield Lake area,” said Lori Harris, volunteer executive director of the Greenfield Lake Collaborative.

Rotarians and community partners have, among other initiatives, helped establish Greenfield Lake Amphitheater and develop the Dr. Heber W. Johnson Rotary Garden.
