“No justice, no peace.”
That phrase was chanted repeatedly Thursday evening as members of the community and the New Hanover County Chapter of the N.C. Black Leadership Caucus marched through Wilmington.
It was an observance of the 51st anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.’s march on Washington D.C., and his famous “I Have A Dream,” speech on Aug. 28, 1963, as well as what many at the ceremony called a peaceful protest against the use of force in the deaths of Brandon Smith, Ronald Roland, Tevin Robinson and Grace Denk–all of whom were killed by law enforcement.

The peaceful protest and rally was also for what the group called “justice” for Michael Brown and the victims of “brutality” across the nation, said N.C. Black Leadership Caucus Chairwoman Sonya Patrick.
Port City Daily will continue to follow this story with a series. Check back for more from the families of Brandon Smith, Tevin Robinson, Ronald Roland and Grace Denk, as well as the Wilmington Police Department and New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office.
