A service outage and boil water advisory postponed last week has been rescheduled for this Tuesday, April 22.

The outage is needed to accommodate replacement of three water valves in the downtown area. The outage and advisory affects part of Red Cross Street—the 400 block through 722—the 400 and 500 blocks of Walnut Street, the 300 and 400 blocks of North Fifth and Sixth streets, Peabody Alley and 502 North Fourth Street.

Water for those addresses will be turned off at 9 a.m., with service slated to be restored by 4 p.m., according to a notice from the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority.

Once service is restored, customers in those areas are encouraged to boil water prior to consumption until the advisory is lifted—typically within a 24-hour period. Consumption includes drinking, brushing teeth, making ice, preparing food, washing fruits and vegetables and preparing baby formula. Water does not need to be boiled for bathing.

Notice that the advisory is lifted will be posted on the CFPUA’s website. Customers can also call the CFPUA’s boil water advisory information line at 332-6500.
