Detectives arrest Wilmington man on cocaine, gun charges

Detectives with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Vice and Narcotics Unit assisted the FBI Safe Streets Task force in a monthlong cocaine trafficking investigation that ended with the arrest of a Wilmington man.

According to sheriff’s office spokesman Sgt. Jerry Brewer, detectives arrested 40-year-old Dwayne Lavern Clark after conducting multiple search warrants.

Clark was charged with four counts of trafficking cocaine, two counts of maintaining a dwelling for a controlled substance, two counts of possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver cocaine, three counts of possession of a firearm by a felon and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Detectives seized more than 1,200 grams of cocaine, three handguns, money and cocaine-manufacturing tools.

Clark was taken to the New Hanover County Detention Center where he was placed under a $1 million secured bond.
