Stars are in town and filming is underway for the pilot episode of “Secrets & Lies,” an ABC project that could be picked up as a series.
Starring Ryan Phillipe and Juliette Lewis, who are both making returns to the Port City, the suspense drama—a remake of an Australian television series—centers on a man who becomes the prime suspect in the death of a neighborhood boy, according to reports.
Phillippe, who starred in the locally filmed feature “I Know What You Did Last Summer” in the mid-‘90s, stars as the man who falls under suspicion, while Lewis, who was in Wilmington to film the movie “Hick” in 2011, is cast as a detective investigating the case.
An Academy Award nominee for her role in Martin Scorsese’s remake of “Cape Fear,” Lewis stopped by the Wilmington Police Department earlier this week to research her role. A photo posted on her Twitter account shows her meeting with Detective Lee Odham and Capt. Jeff Allsbrook of the police department’s criminal investigations division.
“Playing a detective so I’m hanging with detectives…” Lewis tweeted, with the photo.
Later that day, a second tweet stated: “Detective said ‘We find Scarface or Natural Born Killers in almost every suspect’s home.” Lewis starred in the latter 1994 film.
Also cast in “Secrets & Lies” is Natalie Martinez, who played the good-hearted deputy-turned-sheriff Linda Esquivel in “Under the Dome,” likewise filmed in Wilmington. “Private Practice” alum KaDee Strickland is also cast as Phillippe’s wife, according to trade site Deadline.com.
Recently added to the cast are Charles Dutton, known to TV audiences for the title role in “Roc,” Indiana Evans of Lifetime’s “Blue Lagoon,” Steven Brand (“Magic City”) and Kate Ashfield (“Shaun of the Dead”), Deadline reports.
“Secrets & Lies” is one of three pilots slated to film in Wilmington this spring. John Hawkes and Michael Cera will star in FX’s “How and Why,” and NBC/Universal is producing a pilot for CBS entitled “Red Zone.”
“Under the Dome” and “Sleepy Hollow” will also be returning to film their second seasons in Wilmington this year.
