The U.S. Coast Guard rescued five people aboard a disabled sailboat approximately 30 miles southeast of Bald Head Island.

Trevor Miller of the Emmanuel–a 63-foot sailboat–contacted the Coast Guard at 9:15 p.m. Thursday reporting the vessel had lost power and requested assistance, a notice from the U.S. Coast Guard said.

A crew was dispatched on a 47-foot motor life boat from the U.S. Coast Guard Station in Oak Island to assist in the rescue and arrived on scene at 5:45 a.m. Friday.

The sailboat was placed in tow but due to a rough sea conditions and high winds, the crew was only able to tow the vessel at a speed of 2 knots.

A second rescue boat left from Oak Island at 8 a.m. and took over the tow at 11:30 a.m. Friday, approximately 25 miles east of Carolina Beach, the notice states.

The Coast Guard crew towed the Emmanuel to Masonboro Inlet where a Tow Boat U.S. crew took over the remainder of the vessel’s journey back to shore. The sailboat was moored at Seapath Marina in Wrightsville Beach at 4 p.m. Friday.

No injuries were reported.
