Detectives with the Pender County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Burgaw man Sunday on charges of attempted murder and sexual assault.
Tommy Wayne Smith, 51, was arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder, assault by strangulation, first-degree sexual offense, assault on a female and communicating threats, according to Pender County Sheriff’s Office Detective Sgt. John Leatherwood.
The charges stem from a domestic assault that allegedly occurred Dec. 9.
Smith is currently at the Scotland County jail where he is being held under a $30,000 secured bond for a probation violation in that county, Leatherwood said. Smith will be taken to the Pender County jail pending his court hearing on that case.
