A young child found a gun at a local park Tuesday.
According to Wilmington Police Department Spokeswoman Linda Rawley, at about 1:05 p.m. Tuesday, officers reported to the Portia Mills Hines Park at 10th and Rankin streets in response to a report that a gun was found at the playground.
A woman reported her young grandson pulled a handgun from underneath the stairs of the playground and then went to tell her about it, Rawley said. Officers secured the scene and took the gun. After running the serial number, officers did not find any reports that the gun was stolen, Rawley said.
“That just goes to show you what’s out there. Certainly glad that this lady was able to collect it [and] call us,” Rawley said.
No one was injured.
